The importance of a regular eye test to spot glaucoma and other sight-threatening conditions was highlighted when Bansri Shah FBDO MFDO , Director at Eye Link Opticians spent an afternoon presenting to ( brokers) staff at leading global advisory, broking and solutions company Willis Tower and Watson.

Mrs Shah was invited by VSP, the national leader in vision and eye care benefits offering vision insurance and plans for individuals and businesses.

The presentation highlighted the benefits of regular eye examinations and how they can detect the presence of many eye problems from the need for spectacles to the requirement for referral for treatment.

Bansri Shah has been working in the Optical industry since 1982 and has a wealth of knowledge, specialising in low vision and bespoke solutions for complex prescriptions.  Mrs Shah has been working at Eye Link Opticians based on Ludgate Broadway, East London since May 2018.  She said “An eye test can detect certain conditions before you notice any changes to your vision. By looking into your eyes, your Optician is able to see blood vessel leaks or swellings macular which are early signs of diabetes. Similarly, they may be able to detect the early stages of glaucoma or cataracts. Diagnosing these disorders in their initial stages will help prevent permanent vision loss in the future. By further examining the blood vessels in the eyes, an Optician can also identify high blood pressure, high cholesterol and macular degeneration.

In summary, an eye test is a thorough check up – not just for your vision but for your overall health and well-being”
